API 6A WELLHEAD AND XMASS THREE DESIGN

EQUIPMENT TO MARKING LOCATION AND CRITERIA

Ø  Equipment Marking

a. Marking Requirement

Minimum requirement for marking consist of temperature rating, material class, product specification level, performance requirement level, date of manufacture (month and year) and manufacturer’s name or mark (ISO 10423)

1. Marking method: Marking should have using low-stress (dot, vibration or rounded V)

2. Nameplates: Nameplates is not required if the information is permanent

3. Hidden marking: Stamped in a visible location.

4. Thread marking: The thread type marking (ISO 11960):

  • Line pipe: LP
  • Casing (short thread): STC
  • Casing (long thread): LC
  • Casing (buttress): BC
  • Casing (extreme line): XL
  • Tubing (non-upset): NU
  • Tubing (external-upset): EU

5. Size marking: The marking of size shall include the nominal size.

6. Weld metal overlay: Metal overlaid corrosion-resistant mark  with “CRA” to designate a corrosion-resistant alloy, or “SST” to designate an austenitic stainless steel.

7. Hardness tests: Mark with actual value of the hardness test.

8. Other end connectors

  • Other end connectors marked with “OEC” and than size or pressure rating.
  • Hub end connectors marked with "ISO 13533" and than size and pressure rating.

b. Wellhead equipment

Specify in Tables 27 and 28. The bore size shall be preceded by the word “Bore”.

c. Connectors and fittings

Show in tables 27 and 29.

d. Casing and tubing hangers

1. Marking of mandrel hangers: Top and bottom threads listed with the bottom first. Specify in Tables 27 and 30.

2. Marking of slip hangers: Hanger will be installed in upside down shall have the word DOWN. (Showing in Tables 27 and 30)

e. Valves and Chokes

Specify in Tables 27 and 31.

  • Marking for multiple valves: Designated by the nominal bore sizes in decreasing (e.g. 3 1/16, 2 1/16, 2 9/16, 2 9/16). For equal bore sizes use the nominal bore size followed by the number of bores (e.g. 2 1/16 Quad).
  • Valve hand wheels: Mark with direction of movement for opening the valves.
  • Nominal size and maximum orifice for chokes: marked as specified in 10.9.3.3.
  • Choke beans: specified in Table 32.
  • Valves prepared for actuators: Mark the letter “V” after “ISO 10423”.
  • Surface and underwater safety valves: Marked with the letters “SSV” or “USV” following “ISO 10423”.API Specification 6A / ISO 10423 103

f. Loose connectors [flanged, threaded, other end connectors (OEC) and welded

Marking and stamping for all loose connectors specified in Table 27.

g. Other equipment

  • Actuators

Actuators shall be marked as specified in Table 27.

  • Assemblies of actuators and valves prepared for actuators

Valves prepared for actuators if assembled with the actuator, mark as specified in Table 34.

  • Ring gaskets

Mark as specified in Table 33. Ring gasket material shall be identified by the following marks

h. Studs and Nuts

·       Stud Marking: Mark in conformance with ASTM A 193, ASTM A 320, or ASTM A 453. CRA material studs shall be metal-stamped with the UNS numbering.

  • Nut Marking: Marked in conformance with ASTM A 194.
  • Impact Test Marking: The impact test temperatures stamped directly under the “CRA” marking.

i. Christmas trees

Assembled Christmas trees shall be tagged with the information as specified in Table 34.

j.  Valve-removal plugs

Marking with "ISO 10423" followed by the nominal size and "VR" for 69,0 MPa (10 000 psi) working pressure or "HPVR" for 138,0 MPa (20 000 psi) working pressure, material class and manufacturer's name mark as a minimum.

k. Bullplugs

Marking with "ISO 10423" followed by the nominal size, material class and manufacturer's name mark as a minimum.

l.   Back-pressure valves

Marking with "ISO 10423" followed by the nominal size, working pressure, material class and manufacturer's name mark as a minimum.

Ø  Storing and shipping

  • Draining after testing: All equipment shall be drained and lubricated after testing

·       Rust prevention: Shall have exposed metallic surfaces protected with a rust preventative which will not become fluid and run at a temperature less than 50 °C (125 °F).

  • Sealing surface protection: Must be protected from mechanical damage for shipping.
  • Assembly and maintenance instructions: Specified in Annex H.
  • Ring gaskets: Must be boxed or wrapped during shipping and storage.
  • Age control of non-metallic materials

- PSL 1 and PSL 2

Shall be documented by the manufacturer.

- PSL 3 and PSL 4

Minimum provisions for non-metallic sealing materials:

  • Maximum temperature not to exceed 49 °C (120 °F)
  • Indoor storage
  • protected from direct natural light
  • stored unstressed
  • stored away from contact with liquids
  • Protected from ozone and radiographic damage.
  • The manufacturer shall define the provisions and requirements.
